2012 UK Concrete Show Review

2012

The UK Concrete Show is one of the main two events held in the UK that highlight success and new ideas regarding the use of concrete globally. The 2012 event was held at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry on 22nd and 23rd February. John Quinn and Andy Earnshaw from Spectacular Driveways attended on both days. John was invited to deliver a short presentation about laying pattern imprinted concrete; he is thought of as a ‘master’ in the skill and demonstrated live at last years show.
Concrete, although being around since the Roman times, is still developing technically and therefore is being used for an ever increasing list of primary and secondary uses. Also, products that can be used to improve the use of concrete are being developed at a rapid rate.
Events such as www.concreteshow.co.uk allow companies like Spectacular Driveways to learn about new techniques for laying, preserving and maintaining pattern imprinted concrete driveways, patios and pathways. We look for ideas that increase the lifetime value to our customers.
New products this year that caught our attention were fibres to add into the concrete before is poured to add strength; new additives that extend the time before concrete sets; and new sealants for preserving the finish and increasing resistance to stains.
As we also supply our own ‘mixed fresh on site’ concrete for every job, we visited the stand of the Batched on Site organisation, of which we are members, to check out the latest in regulations.
